Gallows at The Forum

Last night we went to The Forum in Kentish Town to see Gallows, Everytime I Die and The Ghost of a Thousand. I actually enjoyed the festivities more than I thought I would. We missed the first band and then The GOAT came on stage in their matching white t-shirts (their 'uniform' so I'm told) followed by ETID who I wasn't really too fussed about. I didn't know any of their songs which shouldn't really be a problem but they just didn't draw me in. Fortunately, Gallows then took to the stage and it was the best I've ever seen them. They were so tight and Frank is such an enigmatic front man - it totally works for him (see pics above that I took in 2007 at MTV party). I now look forward to my next encounter with them. Sure it won't be too long.......

The Bronx - ULU

I had a whole new gig experience on Tuesday at ULU. We went to see LA band The Bronx and supporting them were a band called Mariachi el Bronx who just so happend to be The Bronx's mexican themed side project!! So in theory they were supporting themselves on tour!! Mariachi reminded me of Mad Caddies, Bosstones and early NOFX which is the style of music which I love. The only downer of the night was when some weird magician dude came on stage before the headliners and cut up a toy rabbit and 'cut his arm' and 'hammered a nail into his head' - it was just a bit to 'out there' for the entire audience. But then The Bronx came on and did there thing and all was forgiven. There were lots of crazy crowd surfers too. Was great to see a band embracing them for a change......

Casio Kids at Proud Galleries

Last night I went to a great show at the Proud Galleries in Camden. We went especially to see a Norwegian electro-troupe called Casio Kids. I was already a fan of the name and really loved their quirky style and how musically diverse the band members were. One in particular sang, played guitar, drums and keyboards all in one set! I chatted to him after the gig and he said that he's yet to learn to play the bass - that's his next task! They're playing a few festivals summer including Latitude so make sure you check them out.......

Spring Awakening!

We went to Spring Awakening at the Novello Theatre this week and I knew nothing about the musical before hand other than it was a bit risque in parts. It was a really refreshing production and the cast were humourous and talented - and very brave in parts! They're telling quite a sad story and the rock music style was bizarre for an 18th century tale but the modern twist really worked - mainly thanks to the young actors. It's only in theatres until the end of May so I'd suggest getting tickets quick.........

Heavens Basement at The 100 Club

I'd never heard of Heavens Basement until yesterday when my friend invited me along to one of their gigs at The 100 Club on Oxford Street. I went along with an open mind but when I saw the streams of guys with big 'power ballad' hairdos and lepoard print tight trousers I started to worry about what was in store for my night out. Then Justin Hawkins of The Darkness fame walks in with shaggy hair, dodgy hat and dark sunglasses - I knew that if he was a fan then I was really in for a treat! Pre-judgements aside, I was really impressed with the outcome. The lead singer Richie had one of those powerful voices that filled the room and the guitar shredding was incredible! I'd defo recommend you check them out www.myspace.com/heavensbasementofficial ....................

Finally! Artwork of my Own!

The ever so talented Lindsay Cowcher has given me an original piece of artwork - and it just so happens to be of my face!! It's so beautiful and I can't wait to get a frame for it and hang it proudly in my house. What's next for Lindsay - world domination......

One to Watch - Lindsay Cowcher

My good friend Lindsay is a very talented artist. She has this incredible way of creating a visual masterpiece, even with Paige, Laura and My faces as inspiration! Above she has created this amazing piece from a picture of the three of us and it's just gorgeous. I'm now pleading with her to make one for me to keep (as this one was for Laura's birthday boo!). Definitely a name to watch in the future folks.....

New Pizza Express Option

Went to Pizza Express for lunch the other day and I was delighted to see a new lighter option on the menu. As I've started doing Weight Watchers again it feels good not to just eat 3/4 of a pizza because it's less points! Helen and I chowed down on a whole one of these and we think it's roughtly 7 points. So not a bad lunch option - was tres tasty and I'd definitely recommend it. Of course I'd prefer a pizza with the middle still in tact but beggars can't be choosers......
