Do Bears S*** in the Woods? Why Yes They Do!

Wednesday 7th July 2010 for Paige and I shall always now be known as they day we achieved something great. Our patience and friendship was tested to the max but luckily for us, we survived the day in tact and actually ended up feeling pretty proud of ourselves, even if somewhat knackered. "But what happened to you that day Jo?" I hear you ask. Well I'm about to tell you. We left Sonora at 8am for our 8 hour drive to Las Vegas. "But Jo, that sounds like a relatively simple task?" well you'd be right, it SOUNDS like one but it wasn't! The start of our journey was great. Lovely scenery, windey roads, the lot. Then we realised that we'd been driving around Yosemite and not through it (doh!) so we decided to take a right and go through the park. We had a fab time again looking at the views of the lakes and the trees AND we saw a baby bear!! It was climbing up a tree and going for a stroll - soooo cute! It wasn't until we'd been driving for 2 hours that we realised we'd been driving in the WRONG direction!!!!! The only way to rectify it was to turn back on ourselves for two hours and exit the park and continue on to Vegas. So that was very annoying but not the end of the world as we still had loads of time. We were about an hour into the drive back when I took over the driving and about 5 mins into that drive I hit a huge pothole (one like I've never seen anywhere before) and we got a flat tyre!!!! Couldn't believe it! So Paige and I remained very calm (she wasn't mad, didn't punch me/yell at me so I was very lucky!), found the spare tyre and jacked up the car and changed it!! Our Dad's would have been so proud. So once the temporary tyre was on, we drove to the nearest car parts place which was about 45 mins away so we drove there (weren't allowed to go over 50mph on the temporary tyre, the cars stuck behind us were VERY happy about that) and the guy said it wasn't a puncture and he just had to bash out the dented wheel base, so $30 later and we were back on the road. It was now 3pm and we were only about 70 miles from where we'd started the day at 8am!! So we still had a 6 hour drive ahead of us. We finally made it to Vegas at about 9:15pm (after nearly running out of petrol in the middle of nowhere too - oh yes, we had a shocker of a day!). Totally worth it though as we then got changed and headed straight out for a pitcher of margs! So we now feel that if we could survive a day like that then there is nothing that us and our friendship can't survive. 13 hours from Sonora to Vegas must be a new record.......
